RC Cars – Caring for Your Gas Engine
Part of having RC cars for a hobby is making sure that you take great care of it. This means you definitely have to take care of your engine. Gas engines definitely require a bit more care than electric motors do, so you need to know how to properly care for your gas engine if you decide to go that route.
When you’re trying to take care of your gas engine, make sure you run it on the rich side. While you’ll go a bit faster when running it leaner, you’ll also find that this will make your engine run even hotter, which can be a problem. Excessive heat is definitely not good for your engine, so it’s better to run rich and just a bit slower.
The fuel you use is also very important. To get longer life from your gas engine, it’s a good idea to make sure you avoid fuels that have a very low oil content. Usually it’s a good idea to go with more oil in the fuel. While racing fuels usually have oil percentages that are low, going with something with more oil is definitely worth losing a tiny bit of speed because it will allow the engine to run cooler.
